Event Title: Chateau to Plateau
Event Author: banditrider
Calendar: Road Riding Events
Event Date: 25 January 2009 (Single Day Event)

From the email I got today:
QUOTE
Toko & District Lions
Chateau to Plateau

Dear “C to P 2008” participants.

I am sure you will be pleased that we are again running the “Chateau to Plateau” on Sunday January 25th 2009.

Our inaugural event was extremely successful with every one seeming to enjoy the ride immensely. All the Lions members involved with the event organisation on the day certainly enjoyed interacting with the riders.

The 2009 event will be similar to the 2008 event, but as a result of your comments on our feedback survey some minor improvements, in particular food at the Chateau and at the Whangamomona lunch stop will be much improved.

On the Saturday night prior there will be a BBQ with a difference at Eivin’s Bar and Restaurant in National Park. Proprietors Bryce and Marie are both enthusiastic Harley Riders who are very keen to support the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter which will again be the beneficiary of profits from the event. Bryce is also a keen hunter who promises to have some special culinary delights for the BBQ. To register for this BBQ please see details on your registration form.

There is plenty of accommodation in and around National Park but as it is Auckland Anniversary weekend it would pay to be in early.

As an incentive to attract more riders and to recognise those who supported our inaugural event we are offering free registration to those who registered for the 2008 ride and who can bring along three new participants to the 2009 ride.

Toko & District Lions members look forward to seeing you again at the Chateau for our 2009 “Forgotten Highway” ride to the Plateau where the weather will be excellent and the view fantastic!

Regards
Neville Cleland & Mark Masters
“C to P’ organisers.

Not sure if I'm in again yet. It was reasonably well organised but quite slow in places - weren't supposed to pass marshalls etc. We stopped on the side of the road for a while to cool down before continuing on to Whanga for lunch. Then we snuck away before the pack and headed home.

Very tempted - but the budget is getting a bit tight. Is it limited numbers and can we late register on the day?

I doubt that the numbers are limited due to it being a charity ride and you can register on the day - it just costs more ($5).

Right here's my plan (and at this stage there's at least 4 of us: 2 x Connies, 1 x Bandit, 1 x Fat Boy & possibly 1 x Horse): we're meeting at BP Rangetiki and leaving at 06:30 (that means wheels turning at 06:30). Heading over Vinegar Hill and up SH1 to Turangi, breakfast at the truck stop, gas up and then over the Hill to the Chateau. Riders briefing is at 10am so need to be there before hand for registration etc.

We'll probably hang back at the Chateau for a while to keep out of all the traffic on the FH. Stop at Whanga for lunch with the rest of the ride but possibly leave early and just come straight home via the 'naki (possible diversion to Inglewood).

If anyone wants to join us on the way up that's fine and then they can either stick with us, go with the main bunch or do their own thing...

Oh, it's gonna be HOT!
