Stole this route map from KiwiBiker. Not sure it's 100% accurate.

I'll be leaving Palmy at 5am with the Bluebanditio if anyone wants to join us. We'll follow the route to Rimutex and then pull out at Palmy afterwards. Did the same last year and John is happy if we do it this way - maybe let him know if this is also what you plan to do...

Only 2 weeks to go...

Would love to do this, but being election day, I'm working. sad.gif

Hi ya Andrew .. when I first looked at the map & compared it to Johns directions it does not appear 100% accurate but gives the general direction smile.gif

see you there
banditrider
Yep, it's a bit dodgy in places. Last year John gave out good instructions so shouldn't be any problems...
chanceyy
yeah thats what I figured .. only several roads I have not done .. fields track & I finally get to do the forgotten highway

Voted last night. Just got to gas up the bike, chuck some gear together and look forward to a very early start on Saturday morning.

Also just heard from a mate of Dad's (he sold me my RG many moons ago) - 3 of them coming down from the bay on Friday. 1 x Trumpy, 1 x CB1300 & 1 x GSX-R1100 (I think). All keen to try some roads they haven't ridden before. Should be a good turn-out...

Oh yeah, created a map but seem to have run out of way points just before Palmy (on the return leg): http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&sadd...e=UTF8&z=12

Thanks-great map...now I won't get too lost when I get left behind!! blush.gif
I too have voted, bought a Shoei `whisper kit' and a Revit Rainsuit (looks like a cross between an Abba suit and a spaceman suit rofl.gif ) and rigged up a bag for the back of the Beastie.
Need to fill up the bike then make sure all the household will cope with out mum for the day!! No Friday night ride for me.... lazy2.gif music.gif spruce_up.gif chopper.gif

(Pulled a lovely Heifer calf out of her mum last night-mum and baby all good. Two cows to go....they better not pick Saturday to grace the world.....though my son knows the drill now so it will be up to him to get the pulley out if needed!! bb.gif .)

banditrider
Yep, I've gotta whisper kit too and it does it's little bit too help with the wind noise (still wear earplugs). Lost a Bandit from the group (see above) but it looks like we've added some more class - Brian & his Connie will probably be with us too.

Weather is changing for the better. Might get a little splash on the eastern side but should be good once we're back over this side and up the guts.

Saw your post on KB re the meeting place. No problem, only a stone's throw from here. What's 86 up too?

Cool...Welcome to the world young man and congrats to the lucky parents.

Just thought it makes sense to start from that side of town. Aim for a 5am leaving time from Pioneer Shell. I will PM 86 and maybe meet him over this side to trek over to you..... good.gif

Note to self: Whisper kits really like earrings!!! nono.gif Ouch.

Will a whisper kit work for me. I can't hear a damned thing with my helmet on but get a whistle from some wind angles.

You lot are bloody keen. All the best for the weekend run, animal farm midwifes and all. Maybe next year for me.

Gidday. Well I took off the old tyres (original PR's) and replaced them with two new ones, also original PR's. Other than that I don't know. What? I was really tossing up whether to change them or not but thought I had better as the old front had no tread on the sides but plenty in the middle. Must wind up the front suspension, some more.

I hit the fast reply button so only time for a quickie:

12hrs 45mins including all stops (45mins just in the Hutt before kick off proper). About 1,002km - missed a couple of turns. Awesome weather once we got north of Masterton. Brilliant route, lots of corners (Pohangina, Fields track, FH etc). Lucky with a cop. Knackered (getting up at 10 to 4 sux), need a shower.
Monamie
Left Longburn at 5am and got back at 8.40pm.

1000km observations:

1000km is a really really really long way rolleyes.gif
Rottiguy nearly got a Turkey for Christmas!! butcher.gif
HEATED HANDGRIPS wub.gif wub.gif
Chanceyy tamed the gravel-yeah baby you rock girl!
Paekak Hill sucks in the drizzle with the black squigglies on it blush2.gif
Paekak Hill tried to tame 86......but alas it failed superman.gif .
Whangamomoa has a really cool pub.
Fields Track has been renamed `The Goat Track'.
Leathers maybe safer but they are not warmer not_i.gif
The way the Buell shakes at low rev's ...I think it shook an inch off my behind!! Go Buell!!
There is a town in NZ called Douglas....
The Forgotten Highway is way cool...even with all the gravel.
Right hand corners really aren't all that bad now.
You meet the most awesome people when you go riding.
A guy on an SV turned up in many towns...but he wasn't doing the ride...he even bought his buddy on a patched up yellow bike too...how nice victory.gif

To the daughter who ran the Spa bath and put in bubbles for her mum who had trouble moving when she got in the door.......Mother Christmas took note... wub.gif

Oh...and my Buell the Lemon...I will have it with a lick of salt and Tequilla any day nyam.gif

RIP Grub...Kari our thoughts here in the Manawatu are with you and your families.
banditrider
Glad you had a good ride - apologies if I left you guys in the lurch. Had my own few little adventures which I must blog at some stage.

Terrible news about Grub, I'd only met him once before and said gidday in the morning. Shocking stuff.

Hoi don't go dissing Hawera. They have a good cafe or three, and a new Shell servo, after the pumps were removed so the new old lines could be replaced.

The back roads are not bad, narrow but ok if the cows are not on them. And the bridge under repairs is bypassed.
