Full Version: One downside of the fairing/screen on my Ultra

The fairing and screen on my Ultra are truly impressive - there's an amazing lack of wind behind them at 100km/h.

And therein lies the problem - there's an amazing lack of wind behind them at 100km/h (and even less at slower speeds). The kind of wind you might want blowing in the vents of your helmet to stop it fogging up quite so badly in the rain.

Okay, so the real problem is my helmet. It's an HJC FS-MAX, and I really like everything about it except its anti-fog properties. In damp conditions in 50 or 70km/h zones it'll inevitably fog a bit - and then the only solution is to crack it open one notch to let more airflow through. But in the rain that means water inevitably gets on the inside surface of the visor, which takes forever to dry and just makes the fogging worse.

If I didn't wear glasses I'd just open the visor some more, which I do in cold non-raining conditions, but in the rain that would just mean water on my glasses and I could see even less.

I think the moral of this story is that I need to invest in a better helmet. I want one with an internal sunvisor as that's one feature of the FS-MAX I couldn't do without, and it has to be a flip-face. I've tried on the Nolan N103, but as others have reported it's a bit small in the chin area, especially if you have a freakishly large jaw like me. smile.gif

i found a site that supplied pinlock kits for various non-pinlock helmets, worth a look maybe? google is your friend...

the pinlock anti fog on the N102 was nothing short of superb, just outstanding, it was essentially impossible to fog up, i do miss it a bit with the agv

you can replace the visor on it. I replaced mine with an anti fog anti scratch visor for about $70. Completely different helmet to wear and I can see shit!

another vote for pinlock ... I have it on my shoei multitech ..

I even have it on my summer tinted visor .. for when I'm working hard, and breathing harder wink.gif

I wore the wrong helmet last friday night and had serious fogging problems for the whole ride. The right helmet has a stick-on anti-fog dohickey and these work fine but probably don't last as long as the pinlock ones?? Cheap alternative though - from around $20.

Is that the Oxford one? I've got one in mine that I put on near the start of winter - I probably need to replace it - they seem to work well for a little while, but not forever.

Just trying not to throw too much money on bike stuff atm. Just got it a service before I hit the 4 points - there goes $300. smile.gif

I think it is - got given a couple of them with the new helmet. I had another brand a few years sgo which was quite a bit dearer but it was a lot better - better adhesive & slightly thicker plastic (can't for the life of me remember what the brand was though).
