Oscarnz
excellent stuff, now for the real fun stuff, new bike shopping
EMFORAL
Well so far i have test ridden:

Hornet - Nice easy bike to ride, don't like the way it looks
VTR1000 - Fantastic bike, good fun to ride, looks pretty good, sounds sexy
CBR600 - Thrilling bike, don't think i'ld want to ride it every day
GSXR600 - Same as the CBR but more comfortable
GSX650F - Very easy to ride, but i got bored
Buell XB9R - The best bike out of them all, Not as fast as the CBR and GSXR, might not be as reliable and cheap as the VTR, but hell it was the best bike ive ever ridden. Sounds fantastic, rides nicely, beautiful throbbing and its got weirdly sexy looks!

So im on the look out for a Buell, Wouldnt mind test riding a XB12R to see how different they are to the 9's.
Might even test ride some others, and my names on the list for test riding the new Hornet smile.gif

Does anyone know much about Buell maintence costs/and or reliability?

Well, it's got a harley motor...

Actually, I have a mate with a fat boy (and no, it's his bike, not a son or boyfriend) and he loves his harleys and has had a good run from them. He even did the GC last year on his fatty. One issue he does have is in cold weather the carb ices up and the thing dies on him. Not sure if this is an issue on buells or not. On one of his other harleys (a softail of some description) he had an issue when it was quite new - something to do with the ignition or something as the bike just wouldn't start sometimes. Pretty heavy things to push around...All his harleys leave bits of metal on the ground when ridden through corners - probably not an issue on the Buell.

No idea about maintenance costs - they should be cheap as the motors are so low tech. But it's got the badge...

I'd suggest that the Buell would be one of the easier bikes to ride that you've tried? Wide handle bars, lazy engine etc...If you want to try something with a similar style but without the compressor motor, try a Bandit - they really are big pussy cats but get up and go well too. They do not break either...

Cheers for the info biggrin.gif
I'll have to take a bandit out, they have never really got me excited before. Thats why i havn't taken one out for a ride, but i should give it a go anyway.

The one thing that concerns me with the perticular bike i rode, is that its only done 16,000k's and its JUST had the engine replaced?!?!! Why on earth should it need its engine replaced at only 16,000k's???

I forgot to add that ive also test ridden a VFR400, but unfortunately i was in the middle of a city and could take it for a decent ride. Anyone know how they go? The only issue i'ld have is that its also revving its guts off just cruising like the CBR250RR?

It wouldn't be as bad as the CBR but she'd still be working away. Also, pretty old now and would be fantastically expensive to fix if something serious went wrong...

I have thought about the VFR800, i used to want one while i had my restricted, then i got hold of a v-twin eeekkk tongue.gif
The only thing that bothers me is that some of them seem to be quite pricey, but then again its been a while since i've looked at prices.
Might go try test ride one smile.gif

Fantastic news. I guess that make that bank balance healthy for a day or two. It must be really hard walking and watching Lauren riding that bike of hers.

Heres my report of the New Honda CB600 smile.gif

Booked a test ride yesterday to try out the new hornet 600.
Turned up today, signed all the papers, flashed licence etc.. He went off to get the bike while i got ready.
Turns out that someone has taken the demo bike (the wrong one) to the offroad event in woodville, so i had no bike to ride unsure.gif
Ahwell, a quick look around the showroom, cbr1000 - no, goldwing -yes but no, too big. The new hornet? - yes, but they havn't got a demo...hhmmm
oo00oo how about a VFR800?
"Why yes you can" said the friendly salesman dance4.gif
So off i go riding a VFR800 blush2.gif

Fantastic bike for riding long distance, i only covered about 50k's but hell they were comfortable, VTEC sounds fantastic and is fairly entertaining i-m_so_happy.gif
Very stable bike, felt solid as a rock when i was going around corners, didn't get blown around by trucks when they pass etc.
I would love to own a VFR, but perhaps in about 5-10 years when im sick of being a hoon and want to travel long distance all the time.
Dont get me wrong, it is a very good hoons bike, the v4, vtec excellent combination good.gif Something just doesnt tickle my fancy... I keep thinking about the brief encounter i had with the Buell XB9R...for some reason the VFR comes second place to it, Mabe i like to make noise and be a hoon?

So, I'm going to test ride the new Hornet 600 on Monday or Tuesday when its back in town rofl.gif

you should take both out wink.gif ... ride the cb600 to wellington, and take the cb1000 out for a test ride tongue.gif

Congrats on the sale, kinda sounds like you've made up your mind already but here's a suggestion for you anyway.
If you end up in Welly test riding bikes do yaself a favor and go to TSS Red Baron in the Hutt and see if there's a KTM SuperDuke to test ride, nearly certain there is.
I took one of them out from AFC when they had a demo and I loved it, very fun bike at low speeds as well as when you're giving it a serve, if you can live without a fairing it would have to be a contender.
I do too many km's to live without a fairing otherwise I reckon I well could have been riding one by now. FARKIN' AWESOME!
EMFORAL
Cheers for the info biggrin.gif
I might check out a superduke, but those things look crazy, and menacing... would be a whole lota fun though!

Hmmm... yes.. i havent ridden my bike in about 2 months, ive been stuck on the hyosung or with the car.... just got new tyres for it. Matt shreaded the old ones at manfeild. They lasted me 12,000kms though so that's alright. And i'll get my bike back when uni starts cauz its cheaper than taking the car every day.. but yeah don't think i'll see much of the cbr until matt gets a bigs boys bike. tongue.gif

I look forward to reading your review. It sounds like you have been having fun and I can't wait to see your new bike. I'm basically grounded at the moment, looking after my youngest, so haven't been able to get the Kat out for many runs. Amazing how different the bike seems now after doing a couple of track day runs. Must be me. victory.gif

Right, so i managed to take the 09 Hornet 600 out for a ride.

First of all, a decent looking bike, quite similar to the old style, yet has hints of the new model in places. Very light bike, quite wide bars so makes it easy to turn at low speeds.
Out on the open roads, upto about 100k's an hour its pretty comfortable, dont get blown around very much. But anything higher than that and its pretty bad, it needs a small wind deflector or something. Plenty of torque, and there seems to be a gap in the power from about 8000rpm-12,000rpm, plenty of torqe before 8, then nothing, then a hit of power after 12,000. Goes fast enough, I can see the difference in power between the CBR and this. The Hornet is definetly a much more comfortable bike. If i was commuting long distance everyday, this bike would be fantastic, and good for a weekend blat, but i feel it would get uncomfortable for a long weekend trip without the wind protection.
All in all, this is a fantastic bike, very easy to ride, gives plenty of confidence through the corners, feels very smooth. Brakes are good too wink.gif

I ended up going back to the shop and staring at the VTR... blush2.gif

That says it all.

Nice write up.

Now how about trying a Suzuki M109R - You could take a whole family on it.

(Who can you hit for a cheap loan? / family is always cheaper)

Nice chatting with you today. The Hornet is definitely a good looking and light bike but Manawatu winds? Bugs? Farmers spraying shit? Fairings can have advantages sometimes me thinks.

Now that i wouldnt mind taking for a test ride!!! And yes i probally could fit and entire family on it rofl.gif The only downside is its low cornering speed sad.gif
Could possibly try the family, i'ld rather not get into too much debt, so im going to have to keep saving. The bigger the deposit, the less interest i'll pay smile.gif
Yeah i did enjoy riding the hornet, perhaps it should be classed as a 'cafe-cruiser'? It would be a fantastic bike around auckland, zipping inbetween traffic, yet fun on the roads outside of auckland.
Was good to catch up aswell, we will have to go on a ride sometime to scrub in the new tyres on the CBR good.gif

I'm back into riding mode but looking at building up distance runs, when weekends don't clash .

There are quite a few earlier VTRs on Trade me with reasonable KM's at between $6000 to $7000. Buyers market - maybe less.

Don't go too early, you don't want the 16L tank. I think '02 onwards has the 19L (the '03 definitely has it wink.gif ).
